Tears of the Lake: Protect Cambodia’s Lakes on World Habitat Day 2022
Published on 5 October 2022Lakes and wetlands surrounding Cambodia’s capital are home to thousands of people and essential for livelihoods, flood protection and wastewater treatment. Their destruction for development projects is causing evictions, loss of income and food insecurity, and leaving Phnom Penh exposed to worsening flooding.
To celebrate World Habitat Day 2022, listen to rapper Kea Sokun’s “Tears of the Lake”, released together with LICADHO, Sahmakum Teang Tnaut (STT) and Equitable Cambodia (EC), highlighting the hardships communities face as a result of these development projects. The Cambodian government must immediately cease handing Cambodia’s lakes and wetlands to corporations and tycoons and protect the country's natural resources against further destruction.
